Wizkid’s resume keeps getting bigger by the day as his chart-topping single “Azonto” has been named in the top 8 non-American summer song of 2013. The EME singer and Star boy Entertainment CEO  is the only African on the list according to American entertainment online newspaper,
See other songs that made the list.
1. “Blackout” by Wretch 32 feat. Shakka (United Kingdom)
A stripped-down beach house track smothered with beautiful reggae-influenced rapping. It’s glorious. Watch video here:
2. “Biglang Liko” by Ron Henley feat. Pow Chavez (Philippines)
Released in January, the track (which translates to “Sudden Turn”) has fresh synths ideal for summer road trips. The video, however, has a really sick ending.

3. “Azonto” by WizKid (Nigeria)
The title derives from a popular dance movement in West Africa, originating in Ghana. The dance involves traditional African moves like knee bending and hip swaying, combined with wild, complex hand movements that
supposedly mimic everyday activities.

4. “This Love” by Shinhwa (South Korea)
The song talks about the fragility of true love, which goes along with the slow piano at the beginning and ending. It also features a lot of voguing in its choreography, a rarity in boy band territory.

5. “Invader Invader” by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (Japan)
The eternal 12-year-old who brought you the masterpiece called “PonPonPon” releases her latest single, which is currently at #3 in Billboard’s Japan Hot 100.

6. “This Is What It Feels Like” by Armin van Buuren feat. Trevor Guthrie (Netherlands)
Bringing the beauty of trance music to the beach houses this season. The special appearance of Ron Jeremy in the video should not be missed.

7. “Big Banana” by Havana Brown feat. R3hab and Prophet (Australia)
Not-so-subtle lyrics aside, the synth hooks from this track is beach-party-worthy.

8. “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk feat. Pharrell Williams (France)
Sure, the track features an American artist, but not including this French EDM duo in this list would be like not putting on sunscreen before heading to the beach

Sir Emeka Offor Foundation, SEOF, has said any undergraduate on its scholarship who obtains a first class degree in his or her

discipline would be presented with a brand new car.

Secretary of SEOF, Mrs C. N. Ufondu, made this known while presenting cheques worth millions of Naira to another batch of 42 students who are beneficiaries of the foundation’s 2013 scholarship scheme at Oraifite in  Anambra State.

“The founder of SEOF,  Sir Emeka Offor has promised that any of the students that graduate with a first class degree  would take home a brand new car  of 2.0 series and automatic employment will be sourced for the beneficiary, irrespective of the state, town or local government of origin”.

According to Mrs Ufondu, one of the beneficiaries, Miss Ebere Anaegbuonu, who obtained a first class from the Department of Industrial Physics, Anambra State University, Uli, had already benefited from the largesse.

She further said that apart from the 42 students who received their cheaques, 120 other  beneficiaries were  in different schools across the country.

A breakdown of the figure showed that 34 of the students were undergraduates, six  post graduate students while two were secondary school students.

Ufondu, however, warned the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously, pointing out that, ‘’it is not yet over unless it is over.

“That you are given your cheques today does not mean that you have finished with us. If along the line you are found wanting, the scholarship will be withdrawn.’’

What could have turned to be an air mishap yesterday was avoided by the experience of the Arik pilot of Flight W 3788 conveying over 100 passengers from Lagos to Asaba in Delta State.

Daily Sun gathered that the flight which was supposed to take off at 8:30 am, was delayed in Lagos on account of bad weather. Though passengers had boarded the flight, after about two hours inside the plane, they were asked to go back to the departure lounge as the aircraft could not take off due to what the pilot called “terribly bad weather at Asaba.”  After about three hours, the flight was boarded again because weather reports showed improvement within the internationally-accepted landing standards. By the time it was boarded again, many people who sensed the situation as warning from Providence, had already cancelled their trips.

On getting to Asaba, the weather became bad again. Several attempts at landing proved difficult. Not wanting to take chances, the pilot promptly returned to Lagos. On reaching Lagos, the weather had already gone very  bad by   aviation standard with yesterday’s downpour. The plane had to circle around for hours amid dwindling aviation fuel. It finally landed at 4:45 pm amid sighs of relief from traumatized passengers who clapped in jubilation. The  pilot, Captain Sandy Miller, merely told passengers to thank their God for His  mercies when they got home.

Speaking to Aviation correspondents at the Domestic Wing of Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Gov. Obi, who travelled to South Africa on Sunday and came back yesterday to Lagos, said he was determined to make the flight to Asaba en route Awka because he did not like staying outside Awka more days  than necessary.

A tugboat contracted by oil giant Chevron has sunk off the coast of Nigeria, leaving 12 sailors missing, an official said on Tuesday.

“I can confirm the incident. It was on Sunday morning,” said Corrie van Kessel, a spokeswoman for Sea Trucks Group, which owns West African Ventures Limited, operator of the vessel.

“12 crew members … There is a big rescue operation in progress at the moment,” she added, specifying the 12 missing were the vessel’s entire crew.

She could not confirm the nationalities of the sailors aboard the Jascon 4, which sank some 15 nautical miles off southern Nigeria’s Escravos, the site of a Chevron oil terminal.

Nigeria is Africa’s biggest oil producer, with Chevron among the major operators in the country.

Van Kessel said it was not yet clear what caused the accident. The vessel had been involved in towing operations for a tanker, she said.
