Chief Victor Umeh restored as APGA Chairman by the Appeal Court

The Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu, on Monday nullified a High Court judgement which had sacked Victor Umeh as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). The ruling which was delivered a few minutes after 10 a.m Monday morning, re-affirms Chief Umeh’s Chairmanship of the party. This judgment has finally put to rest the protracted power tussle between Victor Umeh and Gov. Peter Obi.

Chief Victor Umeh and the Peter Obi faction of the APGA had been engaged in a long drawn out battle for the chairmanship of the party. It led to the sacking of Chief Victor Umeh from the party – following a midnight convention held by the Peter Obi faction of the party – where Maxi Okwu was supposedly elected the new chairman. A state high court in Anambra later rectified the chairmanship of Maxi Okwu.

Governor Obi has stated he would retire from politics when his tenure ends in 2014. We await to see what becomes of the party as the battle for Obi’s successor draws nearer.
