niyola and kemi adetiba 2

Directed by award winning director, cinematographer and former Maltina Dance All host, Kemi Bassey Adetiba, “Toh Bad” is undoubtedly one of (if not) the best music video of 2013. From the scene showing the blog page, to the part where the babe(Niyola) is mesmerized by the new mercedes, to the kitchen scene where she watched her boo deny her on Tv, this video is a short story well interpreted and directed. Its simply #TohBad. On a scale of 10, i rate it 9.

Niyola is signed onto EME, same record label that parades such stars as BankyW, Wizkid & Skales, and trust me, this song will take her places. It might interest you to know that Niyola is not new in the Nigerian music scene as she featured in Ruggedman’s “RuggedyBaba” album on the track “If i could do it all”, a few years ago.

Wizkid’s resume keeps getting bigger by the day as his chart-topping single “Azonto” has been named in the top 8 non-American summer song of 2013. The EME singer and Star boy Entertainment CEO  is the only African on the list according to American entertainment online newspaper,
See other songs that made the list.
1. “Blackout” by Wretch 32 feat. Shakka (United Kingdom)
A stripped-down beach house track smothered with beautiful reggae-influenced rapping. It’s glorious. Watch video here:
2. “Biglang Liko” by Ron Henley feat. Pow Chavez (Philippines)
Released in January, the track (which translates to “Sudden Turn”) has fresh synths ideal for summer road trips. The video, however, has a really sick ending.

3. “Azonto” by WizKid (Nigeria)
The title derives from a popular dance movement in West Africa, originating in Ghana. The dance involves traditional African moves like knee bending and hip swaying, combined with wild, complex hand movements that
supposedly mimic everyday activities.

4. “This Love” by Shinhwa (South Korea)
The song talks about the fragility of true love, which goes along with the slow piano at the beginning and ending. It also features a lot of voguing in its choreography, a rarity in boy band territory.

5. “Invader Invader” by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (Japan)
The eternal 12-year-old who brought you the masterpiece called “PonPonPon” releases her latest single, which is currently at #3 in Billboard’s Japan Hot 100.

6. “This Is What It Feels Like” by Armin van Buuren feat. Trevor Guthrie (Netherlands)
Bringing the beauty of trance music to the beach houses this season. The special appearance of Ron Jeremy in the video should not be missed.

7. “Big Banana” by Havana Brown feat. R3hab and Prophet (Australia)
Not-so-subtle lyrics aside, the synth hooks from this track is beach-party-worthy.

8. “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk feat. Pharrell Williams (France)
Sure, the track features an American artist, but not including this French EDM duo in this list would be like not putting on sunscreen before heading to the beach

Telecommunications giant MTN have signed music sensation Wizkid as their latest ambassador on a one year endorsement deal. He joins Davido, Praiz and Inyanya who ported a few days ago to the yellow side of life. Wizzy also signed a 2 year extension deal with Pepsi today alongside Tiwa Savage.

Starboy indeed!

wizkid ayo
EME superstar, Wizkid is set to release his new ‘Azonto’ video on the 15th of February 2013, same day “his boss” Banky W is having his Valentine Concert in Lagos; but that is not the main gist. The gist here is that pictures from the video which was shot in London reveals none of the EME boys featured in the music video, including Banky W. This further fuels speculations of his exit from the highly successful label, although it is yet to be made official.

There are also indications from Wizzy’s camp that he is set to float his own record label ‘Starboy’ which will see him Wizkid.jpgsign a new artiste soon. Hmmmmmmm……………

The split rocking the EME duo of Banky W and Wizkid, inside sources say, resulted from an alleged high difference in what Banky W gets from revenues made by the young star, Wizkid.
Sources say the “injustice”, has been bothering Wizkid until he summoned the courage to ask for an improved contract from Banky W, which hit him (Banky) by surprise.
“You know Wizkid is the backbone of EME music label. The boy (Wizkid) feels that Banky W has been milking too much from him with the large chunk of what Banky W takes from what the boy makes.
“Wizkid has asked for an improved contract because the present one allocates much of Wizkid’s earnings to Banky W. You know when you are coming up, you sign any kind of deal because you just want to climb stardom. That may be the reason behind his post last week on popular social site twitter where he said...”Don’t take loyalty for stupidity; don’t!”
banky w and wizkid
“That is the situation the boy finds himself but Banky felt hurt that Wizkid could ask for an improved offer after what he (Banky W) has done for him.
“This was the beginning of the problem between them. The boy even threatened to leave the label sometime ago but Banky W felt it was a joke. He took it with a pinch of salt. Now, he is at a crossroad and confused on what to do,” an insider source revealed.
Wizkid’s mum waded into the matter but Wizkid reportedly ignored his mum advice and stood his ground on leaving the label. “Wizkid’s mum has also tried to talk sense to her son but it seems he (Wizkid) is bent on moving on with his life.”
By the way EME stands for Empire Mates Entertainment…but everybody for the label na mate?

Incase you have been “dulling ontop bike” or “swimming in the forest”, Chelsea billionaire owner Roman Abramovic “haff” sacked coach Roberto Di Matteo- the man that defied all odds to put the club’s name in the list of Champions league winners for the first time in her history. Now that’s some bad news, innit?, especially for those of us who admire the Italian’s composure on the sidelines, unlike his predecessor Andre Villas-Boas who squats about on the pitch as if “shit dey catch am”.
Now this is the GOOD NEWS! Our own dear Samson SiaSia, former Super Eagles coach, has been given the go ahead by Abramovic to manage the Blues from now till they win the Champions League again. «*Now playing* I HAVE A DREAM by Abba»
His calculation is that last season, Chelsea was on the brink of elimination from the Uefa Champions League (UCL) when he sacked “high profile” AVB and appointed RDM who took his side to the “promise land”. Now after the Champions League defeat to Juventus on Tuesday, which puts them at the highest risk of becoming the first defending champions to be eliminated at the group stages, Abramovic thinks Siasia would do the same magic RDM performed last season. According to our source Don Jazzy, who is a “MAN U” fan, and who’s presently in the studio cooking beats for Wizkid, this info was gotten from a revelation in his dream last night.

Davido  might deny the brewing cold war going on between him and Wizkid and even tell everyone who cares to listen that the Pakurumo singer is his ‘brother’ but insider sources say that is far from the truth.

Before Davido bursted into limelight, he and Wizkid were unknown to each other but that soon changed once Davido also became a household name and they both got to meet and struck a chord of friendship until sometime in May when the cordial relationship went sour.

According to an insider who knows the duo well and the source of their no-love lost relationship, Wizkid was chilling at a hotel somewhere on the Island and apparently wasn’t having a great time so he decided to put a call through to his friend, Davido who at the time was hanging out with five other friends of his. The Omo Baba Olowo then instructed his aide to go and pick Wizkid at a hotel behind 1004 building on VI.

In no time, Wizkid had joined Davido and his group of friends at a club in the civic centre where they had some drinks before carrying the party to Movida on Idowu Taylor, VI. While there, Davido ordered some bottles of Hennessey for himself and two other friends who had just joined them and as they drank, Wizkid became tipsy and frail as he had one drink too many on the night.

Immediately, he was carried to Davido’s car parked outside where he allegedly threw up. All this while, Davido was nowhere to be found as he abandoned his colleague and friend.

After a while, the bar tenders produced the bill which was about N500,000 and since Davido had disappeared into thin air and bulking under pressure to pay the bills, Davido’s aide took the bar tenders to Wizkid’s home where he was forced to issue a cheque to cover their unpaid expenses.

This singular act put a strain on their relationship as Wizkid felt let down by Davido. Already, their relationship had been tested following the bitter break-up of Mo’Hits as both artistes had their allegiances divided between Don Jazzy on one hand, and Dbanj on the other.

But what would finally prove to be the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back was when Davido was sending out invitation to guests for the launch of his O.B.O Album and he didn’t send any to Wizkid. And to add salt upon injury, Davido and his crew  reportedly sauntered out on a Wizkid performance to the consternation of many at the NEA couple of weeks back in New York.

With these series of events coupled with Davido’s denial and Wizkid’s obvious silence in the face of all the ‘beef’ rumor, isn’t obvious that all is not well between these two super stars? On Wizkid’s part, could this be the moment when ‘silence is golden?’ Time will tell.
